Behind the Eight Ball

The RAILS Band Gig Diary - Entry #11-2010 Show Date: February 24, 2010.  Venue: Sea Breeze

When we were asked to do a mid-week show for avid music lover Moard Ling, Jeremy and I said “Sure thing, Ling”.  He had been loaned some space temporarily and had built this great stage there.

Thanks to Moard for inviting us to perform.  It was a lot of fun and we were happy to welcome some new Rockaholics to our group, including Axesore Earst and Paddling Melody.  We’re happy to meet you guys!

Too bad the place was not there for long … when I checked back, thinking I’d take our photographs there, it was sadly already gone.   So we played pool instead.

Speaking about pool, in researching the topic of billiards around Second Life, I was amused to find that the majority of the tables that I found were not for playing on, but rather for having sex on.  Well, erm, I guess that’s playing too, but you know what I mean!

Care for a game, Lolly?

Sure, I’ll play you.

Jeremy gets to break!

Hmmm .. I wonder if I should try that other shot instead?

Oh no, if he sinks the eight ball, it’s over!

The loser gets to pay.

Sunday at The Shack

The RAILS Band Gig Diary - Entry #10-2010 Show Date: February 21, 2010.  Venue: The Notes Shack Pub

A Sunday afternoon show at The Notes Shack for Jeremy and me.  Thanks to venue owner and good humour guy, Krakov Letov for inviting us to play, and to those who came out, including JimRockfords Smalls and Xera.  And dear Marissa Fredricksson … much gratitude to her for her friendship, support and interesting chats!

Going to be on my feet a lot today, so better wear comfortable shoes! Oh yeah, right .. in Second Life it doesn’t matter.  Fashion over sensibility is the the way to go!

Ready to go?

After our set, I tended the bar for a while, while listening to the sets of the other two performers on the bill, EricSteffensen Mistwalker and then Senjata Witt.

A bit of bar humour .. A termite walks into a bar and asks, “Is the bar tender here?”.

Jeremy has a martini … dry, with two olives on a plastic sword.  And Krakov enjoys a beer.

What can I get you?  Care for some nuts?  Then you’ve come to the right place!

Later, I joined Marissa at a show performed by Patrick LaSalle at Molaskey’s.

Phew .. I’m pooped after a busy but very fun day!

A Beautiful Build

The RAILS Band Gig Diary - Entry #9-2010 Show Date: February 18, 2010.  Venue: The Rails Nightclub

Though, being a Thursday, it was the usual time for our weekly full band show, this week Jill and Chops were unable to make it, so Jeremy and I held down the fort, so to speak.  Big thanks to those who came!

One of my favourite pastimes in SL is exploring; taking some time to examine the smallest details of places and things that people have made.  This may sound sappy, but sometimes I come upon something, that is so striking in it’s beauty that it brings a mist to my eye.

When I first came upon this building, with it’s lovely stained glass roof and massive carved and textured beams and arches, I had such a feeling and saved the landmark for a future photo shoot.  It houses the wares of Nardya Rousselo of NX-Nardcotix.

The most amazing thing about this place is that everything, not only the goods for sale (which include shoes and clothing to die for), but the chairs, the stairs, the flowers, the lamps, the walls … everything I checked had been made by Nardya herself, (except the tree in the first picture, and the gargoyle).  Such talent, it’s breathtaking!

Then I received a note card stating that the shop was moving within the week.  Would the wonderful building be moved too or would the whole place be redone?  I certainly didn’t want to miss my chance to take pictures here, in case it was the latter, so Jeremy and I went over.

See how Jeremy makes friends so easily!

We began outside, as we didn’t want to disturb the shoppers inside, who were partaking in the moving sale.  With my handy viewer I cammed around inside first, so we could be strategic and quick in taking the shots.  Get in … pose … take the photo … move right along, so as not to bother anyone else.  Usually I wait until an odd hour when a location isn’t busy to take pictures, but in this situation, we had no choice.

Then we ventured into the store.

Jeremy decided to sit and people watch while I did some shopping.

The dresses are up here!

You will surely see my purchases in upcoming posts, as I found some great clothes and shoes to wear at future shows.

Most of the furnishings were not for sale, however I was happy to find that this wonderful bowl of fruit was.

So we took it to my place and dug right in!

Thanks for reading this … please continue for the credits.

Jeremy and I will be playing a show tonight at 4 pm slt, located at Sea Breeze , organized by music lover extraordinaire, Moard Ling.  Perhaps you’d like to come!

Imagining if RL desk was as tidy as this.

Freakin’ Party People

The RAILS Band Gig Diary - Entry #8-2010 Show Date: February 13, 2010.  Venue: The Freakheim Funeral Home

Why were we hiding out in the woods before this show?  Well, we had been invited to play at the surprise party for our friend, Rykk Ferraris, and didn’t want to blow the secret beforehand.

He was very surprised and happy, and it was a joy to us to be part of it.  He and his family, wife Kaedy Ferraris and inworld daughter Rhyanna Saphir, have been so  loving and supportive to us and we really appreciate their friendship.  It was an honour to be invited to perform for the (self proclaimed) Freak Magnet, and his gang of friends!

It was also a pleasure to see some of our other friends come out, in response to the last minute notice.  The more the merrier for sure, so thanks to Tola Heron, Dart Wolfe and Makethings Sewell for popping over. xoxo <3 . You guys are the mayo in the hug sandwich!

After our gig, Rykk hit the tables, dj’ing a set of his excellent “Anti-Valentine” choices.  I swear, I feel like such a music novice whenever I listen to him play, as the songs are so great and pretty well everything is new to me.  His bins are very deep in deed!

The party was held on the grounds of their venue, The Freakheim Funeral Home, and while the photos don’t show the neat decorations that dear Kaedy made, the setting was very fun and festive!  It was a kegger, so we enjoyed some nice cold beer, on this fine Saturday night.

Rykk and Kaedy. The photo didn’t capture their tiny fangs.

And here’s one of us with lovely Rhyanna.

We were pleased as punch to be given as a gift!

Can I have the big one, Jeremy?

Sweet Hearts

The RAILS Band Gig Diary - Entry #7-2010 Show Date: February 11, 2010.  Venue: The Rails Nightclub

Second Life was filled with Valentine cheer at the time of this show, and we were happy to get our share of it.  All of the furnishings and decorations, and much of the clothes in this post were gifts or prizes.  Thank you to the content creators …  your artwork is admired, and the generosity with which you share it really adds to the fun!

Hey Chops, would you like a chocolate?  Hmm, no answer … He seems to be deep in thought.

Chops joins the group when the cake comes out!

Too much sugar and caffeine?

After the high comes the lull.

Jill finds some energy and is on her way … it’s sunny out there!

Hi.  Today Jeremy and I will be doing a show at the friendly establishment, called The Notes Shack.

We go on at 12 pm slt, and will be followed by EricSteffensen Mistwalker at 1 pm, and then Senjata Witt at 2, so there will be a full afternoon of music!

Location is here

Newspaper Boy by dileoo Kirax, found at the fun sim built by Sway Dench, called Sway’s Creations.

The Rails show today @ Thurs 2 pm slt

Today it will only be the two founding members of the band .. Lolly Gladstone (me) on vocals and keyboards, and Jeremy Barracuda (pictured) on electric guitar and harmonies, backed by a vintage drum machine with a warm analogue sound, called an Oberheim.

The location is The Rails Nightclub in Mieto Sim here

There are lots of spots in the club, where you can sit away from the crowd and zone out and /or work on other stuff while you tune in.  Why not pop up to the mixing booth, where you can watch the action but still do other things?  We understand that you don’t always want to spend an hour looking at our avatars while you listen to the show!
