The RAILS in SL Gig Diary – Entry #11 Show Date: Feb 8, 2009
A free afternoon in real life, found us at the studio working on a new song. Then Jeremy suggested we do an impromptu set in Second Life, to try the tune out on some live ears. Not wanting my newly begun blogging effort to be an obstacle to the musical aspect of our existence in SL, I agreed, asking only for 2 hours between then and showtime.
Knowing that the final 45 minutes before ‘curtain’ was always necessary for preparations in rl (set list, sound check, music stream check, notices, drinks, etc), I had just over an hour to take photos of our outfits from the show we did the previous day, document the specifics of yesterday’s look, take down the Christmas decor that was still lingering in our nightclub (*blush), and get ourselves dressed for today’s show. Lolly was a little lady on the fly!

Following the photo session and note taking pertaining to yesterday’s performance, I quickly got Jeremy dressed in a sweater and pants made by the same designer, Unknown Jewell of label ? (that’s not a gap to be filled in … that is what the brand is called!). He’d never worn them together before but I was confident that they would go well. I stalled on the shoes and then remembered some cool looking footwear I’d seen recently at a new-to-me shop called VINCI. We popped over and got them. He was ready to go so I sent him on his way.
It was now time to get myself dressed. I stripped down to my undies and began trying on dresses, knowing there was simply no time to consider separates. Jeremy’s sweater had a lavender colour in it, which I wanted to match somehow. I racked my brain trying to think of the recent unorganized things I had in my inventory that might work and began trying things on. I am a little hard to fit with prims right out of the box, so nothing was fitting quite right, so I moved on to the things I had in my inventory, which were organized and ready to wear. By this time, Jeremy was calling me over to the club, saying ‘forget about how you look .. it’s the music that counts’. Erm, I agree with him that the music is important, but Lolly wasn’t about to give a show in her underpants, as pretty as they might be.
So I did what we all do in real life … I hit the ‘go to’ outfit; something I’d already worn and knew would fit and look good. This included a dress from THE HUB, which comes complete with the tights and belt. Each piece comes on all layers, including the belt so it can be worn with other outfits, plus the skirt comes in 3 lengths. The piece de resistance is the fact that it is tintable, so voila, the lavender colour was taken care of.
The shoes I threw on were an often worn pair from Shiny Things. I pulled my hair into the proverbial pony-tail, by donning a style which actually is a pony-tail wig. For make-up, I did a quick try-on of something I had coded as ‘purple lipstick’, and quickly deemed those lips to be just too purple. So, on with my trusty RockBerry Eva skin. I have the fat pack of this skin and really like the fact that it has the eyelashes drawn on. No need for prim eyelashes, that I find inevitably make me look like I have two black eyes. The addition of a favourite necklace, and I was off. Phew, just in time.

It wasn’t until we were half way through our second song that I realized that I’d forgotten to send a notice out to our group. So, as our friend Plastique put it, ‘Jeremy talked sh*t while Lolly sent out the notice’.
And the new song? It went over well, though I did forget some of the chords, so Jeremy had some extra solo time!
