We’re Falling for You

The RAILS Band Gig Diary – Entry #67 Show Date: October 22, 2009.  Venue: The Rails Nightclub.

The fall colours are gorgeous in real life right now, and we haven’t even left Toronto to know this to be true.  That’s because our urban forest is protected by multiple city by-laws.  People are not allowed to cut down a tree once it has reached a certain size, without permission from the city, even if it’s in their own yard.

This means that residents have an aweful lot of leaf raking to do, because there are also by-laws dictating that you keep the sidewalk in front of your home clear!  So while it’s very pretty, there is plenty of work attached to the beauty.

Not so in Second Life where the scenery is lovely but no blisters on our hands from rake handling!  Lots of time for a nice walk through the woods.

And it’s actually warm enough to go out in short sleeves!

A Note for You

The RAILS Band Gig Diary – Entry #66 Show Date: October 15, 2009.  Venue: The Rails Nightclub.

I remember a favourite math teacher in high school who had a scarf that was black and white, like a piano keyboard.  I sure thought it was pretty cool at the time!

When I saw this skirt with the piano keys, I was reminded of the scarf and days gone by, so I couldn’t resist getting it.  Then it lingered in my wardrobe for a while, until Jeremy got his outfit, complete with piano key suspenders, in a hunt appropriately called “The Black Keys” hunt.  At this same hunt we got the chair shaped like a note.

So we put it all together and made sweet sweet music !!

Thanks for reading our note!  Please read on for details.

Breakfast Club

The RAILS Band Gig Diary – Entry #65 Show Date: October 8, 2009.  Venue: The Rails Nightclub.  (Weekly Thursday show ~ 2 pm slt)

We had such a good time at our show that we kept right on partying and ended up staying up all night long.

I was dog sitting my aunt’s dog, Harold, so we all went over to her place in the morning for breakfast.

I had forgotten to bring a change of clothes, so had to walk Harold while wearing my party dress and high heeled shoes, so we didn’t go very far.

After everyone left, I slept all day.  The end.

Sneaking Trio

The RAILS Band Gig Diary – Entry #64 Show Date: October 1, 2009.  Venue: The Rails Nightclub

We were a threesome for our usual Thursday ‘full band’ show, because drummer, Chops Baxton, couldn’t make it.  That was ok, as it meant that Jeremy, Jill and I got more time on the microphone!  I’m not saying that Chops is a loud mouth … It’s just that for real life shows, the drummer rarely gets a mic, so Chops enjoys getting the chance to talk in Second Life!

We are forever seeking out good spots to do our photographs, so when we noticed this door was slightly ajar, we just couldn’t resist slipping in.

Thanks to those who came to our show and to you for reading this post.  Please keep going to details.

Here Kitty Kitty

The RAILS Band Gig Diary – Entry #63 Show Date: September 27, 2009.  Venue: The Rails Nightclub

They say you’re either a dog or a cat person.  While we do like dogs, it’s cats for us.  When I first got to Second Life I was so enchanted by the pet cats, that I collected a whole family of them.

These photos were taken after a duet show we performed on a Sunday night, for which we pulled out some oldies-but-goodies to wear.  The red latex dress, from Draconic Kiss, was the very first dress I bought in SL, and Jeremy’s pants caused quite a bit of excitement when obtained as a freebie from Canimal.  Those who have been around for a few years understand that this current phenomena of excellent free or low cost clothing in sl is a new thing.  Back in ‘the olden days’ you could find lots of free sexy lingerie and little of anything else.  Noobies looked new for a long time … until they decided they liked SL enough to put some money into it, or until they had camped for ages and earned a few $Lindens.  These pants were a welcome exception.

We mixed the ‘vintage’ clothes with new things, like Jeremy’s nice shiny boots.  These are from Sassy Kitty and were made for women but, hey, they look good on guys too.

On a final note, I forgot to mention that in SL, there is not need to clean the kitty litter, and no cat hair all over the sofa!   That makes things purr-fect.

Acid Test

The RAILS Band Gig Diary – Entry #62 Show Date: September 23, 2009.  Venue: The Rails Club

“Purple and green should never be seen, unless inside a washing machine!”  … this was a little verse I was told after I showed up at grade-school wearing a purple sweater and green pants once.  Hmmm, was I embarrassed?  … probably not … I thought they went nicely together!

I thought I’d use the colour combo for this photo shoot, inspired by a favourite painting by Hyasynth Tiramisu.

Ship Shape

The RAILS Band Gig Diary – Entry #61 Show Date: September 17, 2009.  Venue: The Rails Club

There was a good turnout for this, our first Thursday show of the year.  After a full year of playing on Wednesdays, our regular ‘full-band’ show has changed to Thursdays.  Thanks to … well, you know … thanks guys.

To go with our skull outfits, we used this painting by our friend MiaSnow Myriam <3 to decorate the stage.

We found this great spot to take our photos.  Called Black Spot Shipyard, the entire place, including ships, furnishings, build, landscaping … all was made by a person named Lia Woodget.

Beyond the peer with the barrels in the first picture, there was a rowboat which ferried us over to have a look inside one of the tall ships, called The Elysium.  (It’s the one to the left, above Jill’s shoulder; the other ship in the picture is called The Crow.)

It’s a wonder none of us was caught on film with our mouth hanging open in awe, because the place is that stunning.

After our tour, we retired to the captain’s quarters and had a glass of sherry.  Well, I did .. the others had whisky, natch.

Wrap it up

The RAILS Band Gig Diary – Entry #60 Show Date: September 09, 2009.  Venue: The Rails Club

In real life, I have a thing for paper.  There must be a word for someone with a collection such as mine, which consists mostly of vintage greeting cards and gift wrap. I’m not sure what I’ll do with them, because I’d never write in one of the cards or cut and tape the paper.  Thanks goodness they don’t take up much room!

So when I opened a file in my inventory labeled gift wrap, I decided to use some to decorate a second life room, instead of wall paper.  It’s a bit busy looking, and while being virtually impossible, surely I’d regret making the same choice in real life.  But in sl you can change your walls with a quick click of the mouse!

Not like a woman I know who has just painted a whole room in a colour she now really doesn’t like.  The sad part of this is she just finished it last week!  She should have done a mock-up of her renovation in Second Life first.  Some friends have recently done just that, with results they’re happy with.  Of course, these are people from sl, as the rl friends I’ve told about this ‘place’ tend to look at me with confusion whenever I bring it up!

And so we celebrate this date “oh-nine / oh-nine / oh-nine” all wrapped up in pretty paper.  Why?  Because we can! :)

Please read on for the details.

Thanks
