With holidays and all, it had been almost a month since the full band got together for a show. We were excited and maybe we all spoke at the same time. Apologies to the audience if we did. Next time we will take turns.
After the show, I was really tired, so hit the sack early, and before I knew it … zzzzz

Wow, what a dream.

With the holiday season over, Jeremy and I spent an afternoon packing up all the lovely decorations.

We had a great time over the holidays, both in Second Life and in Real Life, but when it comes time to cleaning up all the extras that go along with the festivities, it is a bit of a downer. A dying tree, at the edge of the road, with bits of attached tinsel fluttering in the wind, looks pretty sad.

At least (here in Toronto) they have a special disposal program, where they collect the trees separately and grind them into mulch, so that we may enjoy the pretty flowers that they help make bloom in the spring!

The RAILS Band Gig Diary – Entry #78 Show Date: December 30, 2009. Venue: The Rails Winter Stage

It was the day before New Year’s Eve and Jeremy and I performed our last show of the year. As in real life, a reflection upon our Second Lives in 2009 revealed happy beginnings and sad departures.

Starting with the happy, 2009 was the year that we met bass player Jill Garnet and she agreed to join The Rails. Our very first rehearsal with her was streamed live into SL … talk about hitting the road running! She had learned our songs on her own, before meeting us in person. My respect for her began with her brave attitude and willingness to try something new, and grew to include her impressive skill at playing the bass. Bands are like family, and only function well when people get along, support and love each other, and we can gladly say that Jill has become our rock sister during 2009! Cheers to you Jill!

Not to dwell on the sad, but with the good comes the bad. For us this came in the form of a friend and appreciated supporter suddenly needing to leave Second Life in 2009, for personal reasons. Her name is Zeeblebob Voss and words can’t describe how much she helped us with our musical effort, while in the process becoming a friend with whom we spent time every week. So here’s to you, Zeeb. We think about you and miss you.

When Jeremy and I joined Second Life back in 2006, we thought we were coming here just to practice our music, in front of ‘live ears’. Our thinking was that there was no better way to ensure we were learning your parts, than to rehearse them with people actually listening? Though we had a full band line-up in rl, we spent the first year doing duet shows for 2 reasons. Firstly, it’s very difficult technically, to get 4 avatars performing together with properly mixed sound. Secondly, we were finding it a challenge to convince the others that this ‘weird’ internet performance medium was worth the effort.
Turns out, our musical experience worked out well in Second Life and we’ve since added the rhythm section of Chops Baxton on Drums and Jill Garnet on Bass. We also bought some land and set up our own ‘rehearsal space’, called The Rails Nightclub, where we perform most of our shows. It’s a skybox, so visitors rarely see the ground, which, to our delight, is covered in snow! Being Canadian, we sought out one of the relatively rare ‘snow sims’ for our home.

So for the 3rd time, we set up an outdoor winter stage for the holiday season. I think everyone who saw the shows we played there during December, enjoyed the experience, and we certainly had a good time playing in the snow! For this particular show, Chops missed out on the fun, as he had Christmas stuff to do in real life, so Rudolph filled in on the drums!

Jill didn’t come skating .. you can ask her why sometime!

Thanks to Alyce Gravois, for taking this live action shot during the show. You’re a real pal!

The RAILS Band Gig Diary – Entry #76 Show Date: December 10, 2009. Venue: The Rails Winter Stage

For this gig we decided to go back in time. The show was held outdoors at a snowy winter stage that we set up for the Christmas season, so we needed the warmth that these Victorian era-ish outfits provided.
(Hostess Brucie Lusch, must have been very cold, while looking very hot, in her Sexy Santa outfit! Wish I’d gotten a photo of her and her trusty sidekick, Steve Raymond, who dressed as the cutest little elf. Love you guys <3)
The photo session began in my boudoir, while I was getting dressed. Hey are you supposed to have a camera in here?!

We were invited to visit a lovely Victorian region, but had a bit of difficulty with our transportation. Jeremy had to put some extra fuel in the tank.

We finally arrived …

Chops had to wipe his brow when he caught sight of Jill without her cape on!
