The RAILS Band Gig Diary – Entry #14-2010 Show Date: March 11, 2010. Venue: The Rails Nightclub
Yeah, the whole band played together in Second Life on this day! It was a good time, attended by friends old and new. Our appreciation goes out to those who spent an hour of their time with us!
Also, it’s been too long since we properly thanked our hostess Brucie Lusch and her helping hand, Steve Raymond. They are there every week, greeting guests, chipping in with fun and interesting chat, and generally making a huge difference to the success of the shows. As the proverb goes, it takes a village to raise a child, and Brucie and Steve are an invaluable part of raising a Rails show, for which we are very grateful.
Before the show, we had found a very old fashioned record player, called a gramophone. When we cranked the handle and listened to the music it played, we were swept away, to a whole different decade, the 1950s. The man who made this magical player is called Nil McCallen, and the wonderful place to which we were taken is called Jet City.
Can you pick out the dummies in this photograph?
Time travel is a bit disquieting, so upon arrival, we steadied our nerves by heading to the bar.
Later, in the kitchen, we tried to find a way to order a pizza for delivery. We had no luck with that .. the only person we found that delivered was the milkman. At least he also carried eggs, so Jeremy whipped us up an omelette.
Then we tried to figure out this game machine called Pinball. Was this a strange old video game? As we stood before it in a bewildered state, we were greeted by the wizard of Jet City himself, Nil McCallen. He was kind and friendly, and showed us how to play this game. The transferance of knowledge was done as though by mind melding … he gave Chops something called an animation, and when he put it on, suddenly his body just knew what to do in order to play the game. It was amazing!
The shock of the whole experience caused us to require finding a place to sit. Chop actually had to lie down for a bit. Giving his body over to the pinball mind-meld made him feel a bit dizzy.

Showtime today included Lolly Gladstone (me) on vocals and keys, Jeremy Barracuda on electric guitar and harmonies, and Jill Garnet on bass guitar and harmonies. The three of us were backed by our drum machine, as drummer, Chops Baxton, couldn’t make it due to a real life obligation. Imagine that .. first life barging in on second life! hehe. I can’t say for sure, but I think we had more fun than he did!
And speaking of real life, it was quite gloomy outside that day, so to cheer things up, I wore my most colourful item of clothing .. this great vest made by artist Isolahara Catteneo.
After the show, we went over to her place, mudshake , to take our photos. The area is amazing! No gloom and doom can overshadow the colours and interesting details, found here. If you ever find yourself in need of a ‘pick me up’, just go over there!
Here’s hoping you’re having a happy day, and thanks for reading this entry of our gig diary!

We missed our full band show last week, so were quite raring to rock out together today. While we find rehearsing in Second Life to be an awesome way to get our playing tight, we also have such a good time doing it. The added dimension of having real people listening, causes butterflies in the tummy that practicing alone just doesn’t do.
Many thanks to the people who brought their pixelated selves and their real live ears! We appreciate you <3
These photos were taken at a nicely built shopping centre called SG Fashion. It’s a lovely place to look at and has some quality stores. I bought a cute little red jacket there, which I’ll be sure to wear to an upcoming show, and then show you!
This little kitty lives there. I was hoping she would follow us home, but she was quite happy where she was!
Thanks for reading. Hope you will come out to a live Rails show soon.
Hello. Today, the full four piece band will be performing a special Saturday show here at 4 pm slt.
We will all be in Second Life today to play at a party marking the closing of a favourite Second Life venue, called The Bushy Beard Pub. Longer term readers of this blog will know that we have performed at this pub, managed by Zeeblebob Voss, many times. For a while it was our ‘home stage’, and we are very sorry to see it go.
Lolly feeling sad while getting ready for the final show at The Bushy Beard.
Maybe this will help.
Hello Second Lifers! It’s Thursday, which means it’s time for a full band show. Catch The Rails Band live right here at 2 pm slt.
Drummer, Chops Baxton, wondering if this thing still works.

When we were asked to do a mid-week show for avid music lover Moard Ling, Jeremy and I said “Sure thing, Ling”. He had been loaned some space temporarily and had built this great stage there.
Thanks to Moard for inviting us to perform. It was a lot of fun and we were happy to welcome some new Rockaholics to our group, including Axesore Earst and Paddling Melody. We’re happy to meet you guys!
Too bad the place was not there for long … when I checked back, thinking I’d take our photographs there, it was sadly already gone. So we played pool instead.
Speaking about pool, in researching the topic of billiards around Second Life, I was amused to find that the majority of the tables that I found were not for playing on, but rather for having sex on. Well, erm, I guess that’s playing too, but you know what I mean!
Care for a game, Lolly?
Sure, I’ll play you.
Jeremy gets to break!
Hmmm .. I wonder if I should try that other shot instead?
Oh no, if he sinks the eight ball, it’s over!
The loser gets to pay.
Hi there! It’s Thursday, so today we have a show at 2 pm slt. Hope you can come here and join us!
Guitarist, Jeremy Barracuda, catches up on some reading.

The RAILS Band Gig Diary – Entry #10-2010 Show Date: February 21, 2010. Venue: The Notes Shack Pub
A Sunday afternoon show at The Notes Shack for Jeremy and me. Thanks to venue owner and good humour guy, Krakov Letov for inviting us to play, and to those who came out, including JimRockfords Smalls and Xera. And dear Marissa Fredricksson … much gratitude to her for her friendship, support and interesting chats!
Going to be on my feet a lot today, so better wear comfortable shoes! Oh yeah, right .. in Second Life it doesn’t matter. Fashion over sensibility is the the way to go!
Ready to go?
After our set, I tended the bar for a while, while listening to the sets of the other two performers on the bill, EricSteffensen Mistwalker and then Senjata Witt.
A bit of bar humour .. A termite walks into a bar and asks, “Is the bar tender here?”.
Jeremy has a martini … dry, with two olives on a plastic sword. And Krakov enjoys a beer.
What can I get you? Care for some nuts? Then you’ve come to the right place!
Later, I joined Marissa at a show performed by Patrick LaSalle at Molaskey’s.
Phew .. I’m pooped after a busy but very fun day!
