A Memory of Delinda Dyrssen

It is with sorrow that I write about the passing of Denise L. Williams (avatar: Delinda Dyrssen), on Saturday, November 20.

Foremost is sadness for her real-life family and friends.  And also for those who were her friends in Second Life, as it is clear that the community, particularly the music scene, mourn the loss deeply.

Delinda

Living in a different time-zone, we didn’t get the chance to get to know her well, but we will always remember the first day we met her.

It was June 17, 2010.  Our show began like any other, with a few friends arriving a bit early, plus one we had not met before … this was Delinda.

[14:01]  Brucie Lusch: hello everyone, please welcome on stage…The Rails!
[14:01]  Delinda Dyrssen: cool read about this gig on New World Notes. I thought I would come check it out

Five minutes into the show, things became notably different.  Suddenly, avatars we’d never met before began arriving quickly, one after the other.  There were more new people at the show than ever before.  We could see all the people arriving on our monitors, but we couldn’t investigate what had happened until after the show, when we had a chance to read all the chat.  It turned out that Delinda had sent a tweet about where she was, and suddenly it was raining avatars. and indeed, she was an influential and popular person!  It was quite apparent that the new-comers were not there really to see/hear us.  Rather, they were there to hang out with their friend Delinda!

[14:06]  Delinda Dyrssen WOOOOOOOOOOOO
[14:07]  Neffret Kamachi: there you are
[14:07]  Delinda Dyrssen: little Rich
[14:07]  Delinda Dyrssen: hey Trick

[14:21]  Delinda Dyrssen: HI Wytch

Upon spying the little snack laid out in a distant corner of the venue, she noted ..

[14:07]  Delinda Dyrssen: I see Donuts

… at the end of the show

[14:59]  Delinda Dyrssen WOOOOOOOOOOOO
[15:00]  Delinda Dyrssen: Applause!!
[15:00]  Delinda Dyrssen: Thanks for sharing

In real-life Denise was an advocate for the cause http://kdigo.org/ , a kidney donor/recipient exchange program in the United States.

In Second-Life Delinda ran a venue called “The Pocket”, hosting shows there every Friday.  She also kept a blog at afk ..but not for long!

She produced 30 episodes of a live virtual-television music program called Live N Kickin, for Perfect World Productions.

A long-time family friend has written about her here : dberrie

Pictures from the gig at The Notes Shack

We had a great time playing at The Notes Shack Pub on Wednesday!  Thanks to everyone who came.  We had a good laugh reading all your chat afterwords.  A bunch of nuts at The Nuts Shack ;)

Snapped these shots of the band, hanging out after the set.

Earth to Lolly!

Oh-oh … one beer between two Rails.  This could get ugly!

Show today at The Notes Shack! @ Wednesday 2 pm slt

Mid-month / mid-week show at The Notes Shack Pub!  Today all four Rails will be happily gracing the stage at the fine venue run by Krakov Letov.  It’s been said before and we’ll say it again … it’s always a good time at The Notes Shack!  Hope you can join us here

Jeremy went over to the club early to drop off his guitar.

Krakov was also there at the time, filling up the beer fridge, so there would be plenty of cold ones for later.  You know drummer, Chops Baxton, loves his cold brewskies!

Not only is Krakov an excellent host, selecting the finest acts in SL to play at his venue.  He is also a talented musician himself.  To top it all off, he’s a terrific builder of musical gear and related accoutrement.  He made the guitar, guitar case, amplifier, pedals and spot-lights, seen in the photo.  His shop can be found adjacent to the pub.  All this, and he is a really nice guy too!!  Yay, Krakov :)

Groovy Garnet!

After the gig last night, bass player Jill Garnet went out for a little walk, when she came upon a photo-booth.  So she hopped in for a quick picture of the outfit she had worn for the show.

The dress is a gift from the very generous creator, Candy Enoch of A Piece of Candy.  The booties are by Renee Harvey of Duh.  Skin by Lara Hurley, hair by Britnee Hadlee and Pose by Yumix Noel.  Photo-booth built by Aliza Karu, at AngelsDemons.

Nice one Jill! :D

Show today @ Wednesday, 2 pm slt

Oh no! … Hope that Chops can gather all his papers in time for the show today!  I’m sure he will.  You can help repair his day by joining all four of us, as we play our little avatar hearts out at 2 pm slt, here

Blogger at our show!

We were honoured to have MelissaVP Islander at our most recent show, on November 3rd, after which she wrote a lovely post for her blog.  It’s written in French so we will say ‘Merci Melissa’ :) You can read it here

She took these awesome photos!
