The Rails show today! Wed July 27

Hi :)   Today our show will be the duet act of Lolly and Jeremy (Loulou and Nick), backed by our vintage Oberheim drum machine, as drummer Chops is on vacation.  We will perform live for an hour, beginning at 5pm EST (=2pm Second Life time, 9pm GMT)

If you have a Second Life avatar, please join us here -> The Rails Nightclub

Ch-ch-ch Changes

This past Wednesday was the last show that included bass-player Jill Garnet (Jenn LadyEvil), as she departs for a sabbatical from The Rails for an undetermined amount of time, due to the demands and scheduling conflicts associated with getting a new day-job.

By chance, I got this unplanned photo of her leaving the band. What happened was that my band-mates had left the studio after rezzing their avatars back stage in Second Life. I took this opportunity to quickly shoot a final “full-band” photograph, so had all four players lined-up in a row. This was just before showtime, so when Jill got back to her computer she naturally walked her avatar to the stage. I happened to be poised to get this single shot of her walking away. So, while it looks posed because it was her last show with us for a while, it was a lucky accident!

Here’s a shot of a new friend (in the blue shirt) taken after our set. Porter Paquot is a musician from Portland, in a band called Fez Fatale. She also performs a solo act in Second Life, which I can’t wait to hear!

And here’s me (Lolly) doing a dance called “Jumping Like an Idiot”, that Porter taught me to do!

Big thanks to Chops’ real-life friend Greg Ellis, for introducing a group of new friends to our shows, including Porter and Ophelia Dighno .
Also special thanks to Jill for playing with us in Second Life for the past two years, and best of luck with the new job!

For this week’s poster I used a photograph taken by Alysa Paravane . (We have since made drummer Chops Baxton’s drum kit smaller!)

Purple People

A quickie with some photographs snapped after our show last Wednesday.  It was funny and cute how a bunch of people in the audience put on purple clothes because the band was wearing purple!

Feeling Blue

That is, we were feeling like wearing blue for our show last Wednesday.

Jill Garnet plays the bass and sings harmonies

Chops Baxton plays the drums

Jeremy Barracuda plays guitar, sings harmonies and writes the songs

Lolly Gladstone sings lead and plays the keyboards

~~~
Well, truth be told, I am also feeling a bit blue because this is one of our bass player, Jill Garnet’s last Second Life shows with us for the time being.  You see, our Weekly-Wednesday shows were held at 5 pm our time. I think we were very lucky going a whole two years being able to have all four members of the band available to play at that time of day on a workday, as we do have day jobs! It just worked out that on Wednesday’s we could tweak our schedules in order to get together for this late afternoon show.
Now Jill has gotten a different job and telling a new employer that you have to leave early every Wednesday because you have a show with your rock band, is just not on. Then try explaining that said show is held in a virtual world, the timing of which is aimed at an audience who live far far away.
We have always enjoyed performing in this time slot for our European fans, who listen and socialize with us on-line right before their bedtime. I like to think that they are humming our tunes as they drift off to sleep.
Jill says she enjoys playing with the band in Second Life though, so once she gets her new job well underway, we will find a new time slot to play. One that will be convenient for a whole new audience in Canada and the United States. This prospect is very exciting!
As for the rest of us, Jeremy, Chops and I will continue on with the weekly Wednesday afternoon shows, but we will surely miss the wicked baseline and cool harmonies that Jill brings to the party, not to mention the funny stories and jokes she shares with us and the audience.
There are three more shows with Jill to go … Catch The Rails Band at a foursome at The Notes Shack Pub tomorrow, June 6th, then again on the 13th and the 20th.
