Fun Fair

The RAILS Band Gig Diary - Entry #54 Show Date: August 12, 2009.  Venue:  The Rails Nightclub

Wednesday afternoon was our weekly show with the full band.  We were happy to see a bunch of new people, as well as our beloved regular fans today.  And to keep things interesting, we had a couple of griefers come to the show too.  These are players who like to disrupt things by causing havok. Sometimes it’s funny and other times it’s quite annoying.  Today, was on the funny side … these two people came in and got up on stage and started attacking us with chain saws!

Thanks to hostess Brucie Lusch, who got right in there and took action, all while wearing a leather bikini.

It is that time of year, when fair grounds are bustling, so we took a trip to a carnival for today’s photos.  A funny thing happened … we were all standing very still, posing for a picture, when a couple of other visitors came over to examine us, because they thought we were statues. They were quite surprised when we moved.

Thanks for reading this blog entry.  Please continue for the credits, including the location of the carnival.

Child’s Play

The RAILS Band Gig Diary - Entry #53 Show Date: August 9, 2009.  Venue:  The Notes Shack

A fun Sunday afternoon show at Krakov Letov’s venue.

There were no children at this show, however just before our previous show I got a note from someone asking if it was okay if she brought along a friend who was a child avatar.

Sometimes you see people representing themselves as children in Second Life.  When I’ve seen them they’ve usually been out with their mommies, and speaking baby talk … “Oh, that is vewy pweddy!”

While I don’t really understand the desire to be represented as a child, I think they are so cute to look at and cam in to have a look whenever I see one.  They’re small and their ensembles include things like cookies, a clutched toy or a tiny backpack.

Once I even stumbled upon an adoption agency, where someone who wished to be a parent avatar could hook up with a person who wanted to be a child.

These ‘children’ are not underage in real life though … at least they’re not supposed to be, as the Second Life rules are that residents be at least 18 years old.

When I first got to SL, I met a woman who was a pregnant avatar.  Her look included a tummy that grew over the span of 9 months, and an extensive maternity wardrobe.  I even went to her baby shower, which was complete with balloons, decorations, games and baby presents.

I have no idea if she was pregnant in real life and wanted her avatar to represent this, or if she was making way for an adult to become her child avatar.

She and her in-world husband had to schedule the birth at a clinic.  They sent me some photos afterwords.  The delivery involved a hospital setting, with nurses and doctors, and the baby coming out … well, let’s just say, they had the simulation anatomically correct!

In this case, the woman had twins.  I went to visit her and she let me hold them.  At the newborn stage they were like little dolls that needed to be burped and fed and changed!  They were not yet ‘powered’ by other human beings.  Having lost touch with them after this, I wonder what became of this avatar family.

Meanwhile, earlier that day …

Fastest Way to Travel

The RAILS Band Gig Diary - Entry #52 Show Date: August 5, 2009.  Venue:  The Rails Nightclub

It was our regular Wednesday show  … usually all four band members are in SL for this one, but today drummer, Chops, couldn’t make it, so Jeremy, Jill & I were backed by the beats of our vintage drum machine.  Not quite the same, but it got the job done.  Plus the three of us got more mic time without Chatty Chopsy!  We did miss him though.

After the show, we went to New York City for some shopping.  Ah, the beauty of Second Life … wherever you want to go, you can go!  And there’s no hassle at customs.

Thanks for dropping in to read our blog … please keep reading for the credits.

We got this nice furniture at a great hunt at Forbidden Furnishings.

A Glamtastic Night

The RAILS Band Gig Diary - Entry #50 Show Date: July 24, 2009.  Venue:  The Glamshack

I have mentioned another band performing in Second Life, who we really like.  They’re called ‘Friendly Fire’ and their songs are excellent head-stickers.  They’re from Florida and the members are Case Munro and MacKenzie Rasmusen.

They invited us to take their regular Friday night show, at their venue called The Glamshack, and we were more than happy to fill in.  They have a loyal ‘Glamtastic’ following, who kindly showed up for our set.  We played on a stage right on the beach, so there were lots of hot avatar babes, shaking their stuff in cute bathing suits!

The show ran smoothly with the help of co-venue owners, Hy Gynoid and Isobela Capalini.  Thanks to them and to Mack & Case for inviting us, and to everyone who showed up.  It was a great night!

The photos for this post were taken at a really cool spot owned by a guy named Markus Coen.  He has set up a place where avatars are welcome to take pictures, where there are 12 private, (very nicely furnished) suites, loaded with awesome equipment.  What a generous contribution to the Second Life experience.

Please continue reading for credits, including the locale of this great photography studio area.

The RAILS Band Gig Diary - Entry #49 Show Date: July 22, 2009.  Venue:  The Rails Nightclub

This week we did our usual Wednesday show at our own club, and the whole band was raring to rock out!  We were grateful to have the company and help of Brucie Lusch, playing her fancy tambourine and looking like her usual hot self!  Thanks for everyone who came out to the show.

The photos for this post were taken at our club.

Please keep reading for the details of our outfits.
