Hi! This is the gig diary about The RAILS Band and our shows in Second Life. (For more info. on SL, please see www.secondlife.com)

We are a four person band from Toronto, who have been playing together for almost 5 years (except new bass player Jill, with whom we celebrated our one year anniversary in June10). Our music is original indie rock with a punkish edge. We are currently working on our second studio recording.

The avatar line-up includes Lolly Gladstone on vocals and keys, Jeremy Barracuda on electric guitar and harmonies, Jill Garnet on bass guitar and harmonies, and Chops Baxton on drums.

We began to perform within Second Life in Feb 2007. The full band is usually in SL for one show per week, but sometimes Lolly & Jeremy do a duet act too, backed by a vintage drum machine called an Oberheim.

In addition to presenting good original musical entertainment in Second Life, our goal here is to make the visual aspect of a performance interesting too, through the use of clothing, props and animations. We try to show the audience a good time!

We like to play in Second Life because it allows us to reach a worldwide audience, and the gear is so much lighter to carry around from gig to gig.

The outfits in each blog post are the actual things we wore for the show that's being blogged.

The positions taken by the Rails Avatar Band in these pictures are dependent upon poses that creators make using an outside program. Without the pose makers we could not create the avatar dioramas that we do. Thanks to them.

The RAILS Band Gig Diary - Entry #10-2010 Show Date: February 21, 2010. Venue: The Notes Shack Pub

A Sunday afternoon show at The Notes Shack for Jeremy and me. Thanks to venue owner and good humour guy, Krakov Letov for inviting us to play, and to those who came out, including JimRockfords Smalls and Xera. And dear Marissa Fredricksson … much gratitude to her for her friendship, support and interesting chats!

Going to be on my feet a lot today, so better wear comfortable shoes! Oh yeah, right .. in Second Life it doesn’t matter. Fashion over sensibility is the the way to go!

Ready to go?

After our set, I tended the bar for a while, while listening to the sets of the other two performers on the bill, EricSteffensen Mistwalker and then Senjata Witt.

A bit of bar humour .. A termite walks into a bar and asks, “Is the bar tender here?”.

Jeremy has a martini … dry, with two olives on a plastic sword. And Krakov enjoys a beer.

What can I get you? Care for some nuts? Then you’ve come to the right place!

Later, I joined Marissa at a show performed by Patrick LaSalle at Molaskey’s.

Phew .. I’m pooped after a busy but very fun day!

Bartending animation including polishing cloth and glass by Jeaniesing Trilling of Jeaniesing’s Things . This is great, with several different things you can do behind the bar, such as shake a martini and pour bottles.
